The rise of TV cooking shows and culinary/nutrition content in magazines insures that Americans are constantly bombarded with pictures, ads and articles about food. Yet for all the focus on what we put in our mouths, people spend just over half an hour a day preparing it (half the time spent actually wolfing it down). Where we get our information also has changed. While mom is the primary source of cooking instruction, with more than three-fourths of English women saying they learned from their mums, mothers are supplanted by cookbooks, cooking shows and other media later on.
